Box Kid Adventures is a vibrantly adorable top-down puzzle video game that allows you to play as a cute cardboard toy kid. Developed by T-Rex Interactive, Box Kid Adventures is reminiscent of the 8-bit top-down view era and may remind you of the Bomberman games of the past, with its maze-like levels and the unique strategy of moving around objects and using explosions to clear a path. This puzzle features beautiful cartoon graphics and challenging puzzles in the form of how to traverse the narrow pathways full of boxes, bombs, enemies, and teleporters.

Cuter than Chip’s Challenge

In Box Kid Adventures, you play as a toy robot named Box Kid, who is made of cardboard and fully articulate with his limbs. If you’re familiar with the anime Yotsuba&!, you might find Box Kid looking similar to Danbo—except Box Kid smiles more. Box Kid comes from a world where toy robots are all the rage for kids at the moment. An ambitious toy designer decided to create him. However, his boss isn’t too impressed with his work and dumps Box Kid into the garbage chute. 

Box Kid awakens and is determined to climb his way up again, so now you have to go through over 75 levels full of mazes and toy enemies. Box Kid Adventures’ controls are pretty simple, as you only need your directional keys to move Box Kid and push objects to available spaces in those directions. There’s some controls for shooting, but what you’ll mostly be using is the Rewind function, which lets you go back a few seconds in time to undo an action that you took. 

This is pretty handy when you get stuck, so there’s no need to restart the whole level, especially when you’ve come so far in the maze. The Rewind function’s consumable energy can also be regenerated after a while, so it’s really handy. Over time, you’ll encounter other useful objects like bombs and bowling balls, which can help with the numerous lasers, killer robots, and pesky electric fans barring your way. Box Kid Adventures is a colorful game that’s recommended for any maze puzzle fan.
